Saturday afternoon social outing to Derby finds us twiddling thumbs in the Brunswick in Derby wondering where the members from Burton are. Phone rings to reveal they'll be another 5 - 10 minutes and sure enough soon after in they troop. The Brunswick does do a good range of beers but I again decided to opt for local brews today where possible and so stuck to their range sampling
Brunswick White Feather (which was an exxcellent summer supping ale!),
Station Approach and finally
Railway Porter.
Round the corner to the Alex where I had
Oldershaws Caskade.
We then headed across the park, the leaders ignoring (as was everyone else) the footbath closed sign and shortly after we emerge at the Smithfield (a new pub for me. Again a good choice but I went for a couple of beers I've had before and quite enjoy -
Burton Bridge Bramble Stout and
Oakham Inferno.
Moving further along we passed the weir and ended up at the Royal Standard (Local CAMRA pub of the year for 2009 it still proclaims.) JF spotted that they do a tray of 5 thirds from their own beer range so we opted for that sampling Royal Standard Business as Usual, Gold Mine, Roxanne Ruby, Dark Knight, and Hop till you Drop accompanied with some cheese.
On to the final pub, the Old Silk Mill (noting that it had a forthcoming beer festival as did the pub opposite.) Today I went for
Spire Coal Porter and ended with
Beowulf Dragon Smoke Stout and thence homeward.
